Human Rights Festival
In a vibrant celebration of human rights, our organisation joined hands with fellow civil society organisations at the three-day Human Rights Festival. This momentous event served as a platform for advocacy, education, and community engagement, drawing individuals from all walks of life to learn, share, and support the cause of human rights.
Nestled among the bustling stalls and vibrant activities, our organization set up a stall, inviting the public to find out more about our work and explore ways to contribute to the safeguard of the right to education of refugee children.

It was heartening to see the enthusiasm of visitors as they engaged with our team, eager to understand our work and lend their support. The festival was also centred around public discussions on issues relating to human rights, and artistic performances.

Our children took to the stage in a captivating blend of drumming, marimbas, poetry and traditional dancing. Their performance conveyed a powerful message of resilience and hope. Thanks to all who showed us their support!

Our foundation phase children and all new Three2Six children who joined us this year recently underwent health screenings with nurses from St Charles Clinic Centre. These screenings, covering everything from vision to overall wellness, provided personalized care and guidance. Thanks to the nurses' expertise, we're promoting a culture of wellness and early intervention. Kudos to the team from the Centre for their invaluable support and to Fr Eduardo for facilitating critical healthcare for our children!

Venturing beyond classroom walls, we recently took groups of children on exciting visits to the Johannesburg Zoo which were a roaring success! The children explored diverse habitats and learned about wildlife conservation. Special thanks to our staff for organising these unforgettable adventures for our children!

Donations to our school community
Big shoutout to Kim and Vanessa at Uber Nutrition for their generous contribution to our educational project and school community! They donated more than 60 boxes of energy bars to us, totalling over 8000 bars. Thanks to their support, our students and their host school friends are starting their mornings off right with nutritious energy bars for breakfast. Their kindness is fuelling the children’s bodies and minds for a day of learning and growth.

They also donated mathematics books to enhance our students’ learning experience. Thanks for making a tangible difference in the lives of our students, by helping to shape bright futures, one breakfast and one maths problem at a time.

Visitors at Three2Six
This month, our extramural activities received a special visit from our generous funder, the Local Initiatives Fund in South Africa (LIFSA). Not content with just observing, they jumped right into the action, participating in one of our activities alongside the children.
Their hands-on involvement highlighted the power of partnership and reaffirmed their commitment to our cause. With their support, we're excited to continue empowering our youth through extramural adventures.

Our swimming lessons for smaller grades are making waves! We've split the children into two groups based on their abilities. Group 1, our advanced swimmers, are refining their skills, while Group 2 receives personalized support to build confidence. With tailored lessons, every child is making progress and diving into success in the pool! Thanks to teacher Grace and other facilitators of these lessons for their support in helping our little ones gain confidence in the pool.

They got badged!
Exciting news! The Grade 7 leaders and Grade 8 monitors have been elected and badged, ready to take charge. They have taken on a range of responsibilities to ensure the smooth running of the school activities.
From maintaining order to setting a positive example for their fellow students and assisting teachers with discipline and extramural activities, they are fully committed to their roles. We have full confidence in our Grade 7 and 8 leaders and monitors to fulfil their duties with integrity and enthusiasm.

Alumni day
Our central focus this past Alumni day was academics. The School Based Assessments (SBA) have begun therefore the pupils needed reinforcements on topics they lacked understanding in. We received exam revision material from a past Three2Six volunteer, Keith Witelson, currently a Mathematics and IT teacher. Most of the session was spent working on Mathematics revision.
The older alumni displayed excellent leadership skills as they participated in assisting the younger pupils with their revision. Ida Krumm, a current Three2Six volunteer, taught the alumni a new game which required the pupils to apply their critical thinking skills as well as work as a team. After various hilarious attempts to figure the game out, they finally conceptualised a strategy to win the game. We concluded our session off with lunch, refreshments, and a game of chess.
