Theatre performance
|
|
Over a period of three months, our Grade 4 and 5 learners participated in weekly workshops on the production “The Lion King”, facilitated by professional artists from the National Children’s Theatre. The programme focused on developing learners’ skills in drama, singing, movement, and stage performance, while encouraging creativity, teamwork, and self-expression.
|

|
|
|
|
On the 18th of March, our learners showcased their hard work by performing the production. The show was well-received, demonstrating the learners’ commitment, enthusiasm, and the skills they had developed throughout the workshop. Their performance reflected both confidence and collaboration, with each learner actively participating and contributing to the success of the show. We are incredibly grateful to the Theatre and its facilitators for providing our students with such a valuable hands-on artistic experience.

At the conclusion of the workshops, three learners were selected to attend auditions at the Theatre. From these, one learner was chosen to take part in an upcoming production at the Theatre. This achievement is a significant milestone and highlights the talent and potential within the group.

Extramural programme
|
|
There was great excitement this month as we kicked off our extramural programme! Our teachers and volunteers are offering a wide range of activities to our students once a week, including drama, sports, poetry, and drumming. This will no doubt become a weekly highlight for the children.
|

|

|
It was a great pleasure to welcome representatives of the Local Initiatives Fund South Africa (LIFSA), the Principality of Monaco, and Alliance Française of Johannesburg for the first time to our new host site. During their visit, they toured all our classes, observed some of the lessons in progress, and engaged with both our teachers and students. The visit concluded with a meaningful discussion with our team on the project’s latest developments, as well as the challenges faced by our beneficiaries. We extend our sincere thanks to them for taking the time to visit and engage with our work.

Marist Brothers Linmeyer kindly donated interactive whiteboards to the project. These valuable tools will enable our teachers to make lessons more dynamic and engaging, while fostering a more collaborative learning environment for our students. We look forward to integrating them into our classrooms and enhancing the overall learning experience for our students.

On the 14th of March, an alumni dialogue was hosted in collaboration with our partner Timia Africa. It brought together a diverse group of youth and Three2Six alumni, creating a safe and engaging platform for dialogue and reflection. The session was guided by the theme “Empower the Voiceless”, focusing on amplifying the lived experiences of marginalised and underrepresented young people.

The attendees were between 18 and 21 years old and were mostly from South Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Zimbabwe. The key topics explored were identity and systemic challenges. This is the first in a series of community dialogues. We are grateful to our partner for creating this safe space for our alumni.

Three2Six had a stall at the Festival's Activism Row, a space dedicated to civil society organisations (CSOs) to showcase their work, from 27 to 28 March. The project has participated in this festival for the past few years. This year, we welcomed over 100 visitors, including artists, educators, members of other CSOs, Three2Six alumni, community members and the general public. Our team was excited to share our work with everyone who visited and engaged with us, and we distributed many copies of our most recent resources for further engagement.

The 8th edition of the Human Rights Festival brought together a multi-day programme of workshops, dialogues, debates, performances, activations, and public events at Constitution Hill. Across four days, the festival invited the public to engage questions of human rights, constitutional values, active citizenship, solidarity, and social justice through learning, reflection, culture, and collective participation.

- National Conference on humane border migration
|
|
The two-day event organised by the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) brought together government, diplomatic missions, civil society, international organisations, business, media, and experts to engage on rights-based migration governance. Through plenary discussions, panels, and breakaway sessions, it examined the lived experiences of migrants and assessed institutional responsibilities, regional migration dynamics, and the push and pull factors influencing cross-border movement. Participants contributed practical recommendations to strengthen collaboration, improve border governance, and advance humane, inclusive migration systems in South Africa and across the region. This will be used to inform engagements with stakeholders such as the Department of Home Affairs, portfolio committees, anti-migrant groups, and royal houses, and for the development of draft Guidelines on Humane Border Migration to support policies and practices that uphold dignity, equality, accountability, and the protection of vulnerable groups, including children.

- Protection Working Group (PWG) meeting
|
The event was chaired by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and attendees included representatives from the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), the Consortium for Refugees and Migrants in South Africa (CoRMSA), the City of Johannesburg, and the South African Human Rights Commission. Participating organisations provided updates on their recent advocacy initiatives and the challenges beneficiaries are facing on the ground, particularly with regard to access to healthcare. Participants also discussed a way forward to help ensure equitable access for all.
