Before the new school year officially began, our teachers gathered for a formation workshop entitled “Teaching with the Heart: Embracing the Values of Marcellin Champagnat”. The session invited them to reconnect with the core Marist values at the heart of Champagnat’s vision of education. During a sharing and commitment moment, teachers reflected on the Marist value that resonated most deeply with them and identified one concrete action they will intentionally practice in their classrooms this term. These reflections were linked back to Champagnat’s vision, reminding teachers that living these values through simple, everyday actions can have a lasting impact on learners’ lives.

Later this month, we welcomed our children for a brand-new school year! A hundred learners, from Grade 1 to Grade 5, are enrolled at our Windybrow Arts Centre campus. This is our core programme for the year ahead.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Next month, we will begin our homework support groups at the local schools where our former Grade 5 and 6 students have transitioned. In addition, we hope to launch a pilot project focused on school readiness in the coming weeks. It promises to be an exciting year for the project, with meaningful new initiatives on the horizon.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
The start of the school year also meant supporting our Grade 5 and 6 families who left the project at the end of 2025. Our team provided administrative assistance with school registrations to ensure a smooth transition. We are grateful for our partnerships with our former host school, Observatory Girls’ Primary School, and Yeoville Community School, which made this transition possible. Our past learners also received stationery packs to help them begin the year well prepared. We are deeply grateful to the individuals who donated towards the education of this group of children.

Starting their school career with a brand-new bag - how exciting! Thanks to our generous partners at Timia Africa, each of our Grade 1 students received a new school bag as they began their journey with the project this year. These special gifts have filled our young learners with pride and confidence as they begin the year ahead.

Judo
|
|
It is a privilege to partner with like-minded organisations to build lasting relationships for greater impact. This is certainly true of Judo for Peace, which has been offering weekly judo lessons to our children since 2017 - and this year is no exception.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
What makes this year especially meaningful is the return of Denzel, an alumnus of the Project, now serving as a judo coach. It is truly a full-circle moment. We are deeply grateful to our valued partner for their continued commitment to empowering our youth and promoting discipline, confidence, and physical wellbeing.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Our team has been actively engaged in preparing advocacy submissions. The first focused on the draft Regulations on the Prevention and Combating of Hate Crimes and Hate Speech. We were grateful that the Scalabrini Centre of Cape Town endorsed our submission before it was sent to the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development for consideration.

|
|
We also participated in the Gauteng public consultation organised by the Department of Home Affairs on the draft revised White Paper on Citizenship, Immigration and Refugee Protection. The session included presentations on the proposed legislation, followed by discussions between Department representatives and members of the public, who raised a range of perspectives on migration. The project will be submitting written comments to the Department by mid-February.

At the Three2Six project, we support children who face real barriers simply because of who they are or who their parents are. With education, care, and consistency, they can complete school — and imagine brighter futures.

For World Children’s Day, our partner, the Marist Foundation for International Solidarity (FMSI) released a heartfelt video of our children sharing what Three2Six means to them and what children’s rights stand for in their eyes.
